The Year of Living Adventurously

Mahalo, 2014!

It feels just a few hours ago I was still on the street watching the New Year's fireworks and now… it’s already one hour to go before we’re entering the second day of 2014. Time flies by so fast, huh?

Well, just like everybody else – and the fact that I also did the same tradition since three years back – I want to recapitulate my life in the past year. And of course after that, make some wishes towards the new year.

I remember at the very beginning of the year, when we entered the year of the snake, I read that almost everywhere, the snake year was predicted to be a bad year for the snakes (I mean the Chinese zodiac). My Chinese zodiac is snake and of course I couldn't and wouldn't want to believe that, because… C’mon, how come it’s the year of the snake and the fortune of the snakes are bad? That’s nonsense…

And I've proved that. I prove that 2013 is definitely an awesome year for snakes! Yay!

So, here’s what happened..

1. 10 trips in a year.
I traveled to 10 different cities this year, including 5 first-time cities and 2 new islands in Indonesia. I went to Aceh, Padang, Kuala Lumpur, Pekanbaru, Jogja, Malang, Bali, Surabaya (Bromo), Makassar and Medan. It’s like almost once per every month I traveled. That’s awesome! All thanks to cheap ticket prices from the low cost airlines.. :p

2. Starting a new chapter in life at a new work place.
After a few “I want to resign”s since a year back (but never did), I finally got out of my comfort zone and choose to move to a new place. It was quite a hard decision actually (as I had to "downgrade") but then a dear friend said to me, “take a step back for two steps forward”, I solidified my choice. :)

3. Accomplished something I’m proud of at work.
I remember about a year ago when I started to think about resigning from work, it crossed my mind… What have I done for the company or the clients -- aside from being everyone’s-“guy”-that-they-can-count-on -- that made me proud? Then I came to a realization that I've accomplished nothing at that time that I couldn't resign before making something that I, myself, proud of. But now I can proudly said that I have made something that I am proud of. I have accomplished my personal goal at work. And I’m happy. :)

4. My beloved Grandma passed away.
It’s a sad highlight of the year, indeed. But to be honest, I’d rather see her rest in peace than watching her in so much pain because I couldn't see her suffered. So, till I see you again, Ema :)

5. Found a new love.
I’ve been “attached” to the same guy for about three years, holding a (seem to be, but also not sure) one sided love. Although I realized that it was only a curiosity instead of love, and the fact that I can’t see my future with him, I couldn't move on. But finally, at the end of the first quarter of the year, I finally said that it was enough. I moved on and found a new love. And now I’m happy. :)

A pretty awesome year, eh? :D

And... As cliché as it could be, but welcoming the new year, I’d still wish for a better year ahead, in every aspect of life. I have no specific resolutions this year, just want to live the beautiful life I've given, so… Cheers to 2014 and… Welcome, age 24! One year closer to my 25th y.o. goal.

So… That's my 2013. What about you? :)
